The new UA doctoral program in Mexican American studies will begin accepting students in fall 2013.
“The University of Arizona is the ideal academic institution for the MAS doctoral program given its geographic location and top-20 ranking among public institutions,” MAS Director Antonio Estrada said. “As such, we will be able to recruit some of the best graduate students into our interdisciplinary program.”
According to the new program's description, it will take “an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Mexican American life, culture and health, and that it will build upon “the critical inquiry of established disciplines like Anthropology, History, Sociology and Education, as well as the innovative knowledge that has emerged from cultural, gender, ethnic, sexuality, indigenous, immigration and global studies.”
