Vanessa Moreno, MAS PhD student has been awarded the University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Graduate Scholarship for Fall 2021! Vanessa is one of eight graduate students selected for this prestigious award by The Graduate College and The University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Association. Her dissertation will be focused on Indigenous land displacement in Michoacán and migration to Northern California, along with the creation of transnational communities within the last century, specifically the historic connection between Aguililla, Michoacán and Redwood City, California. Vanessa's father is originally from Aguililla and she was born and raised in the Michoacánx diaspora of Northern California, including Redwood City. Vanessa is Purépecha and she is passionate about community-based research, retribalization, and Indigenous sovereignty.
